Pokemon Battrio
Pokemon Battrio! The first ever Pokemon Arcade game!-
In April of 2007, Tomy Interactive announced that it would be bringing Pokemon games into the Japanese Arcades. It was a very big deal for Pokemon because Pokemon has generally been a portable gaming francise, with occasional releases on the GameCube and Wii. What is weird is that this is not only the newest version in the Pokemon Video Games, but for the Figure/Trading Card franchises too. Pokemon Battrio is to be a combination of 3 formats. First off, the player(s) must my Pokemon Battrio playing peices. These are called pucks. Pucks are are thick circullar cards with the picture of a Pokemon on it with its Hit Points. Pucks are randomly assorted in each pack, so you never know what Pokemon you will get.
Color Types-
Pucks are grouped into 3 color types. Hyper are the pucks with a yellow border, Super with a blue border, and Normal with a red border. The names mean something specific to the Battrio game, so do not worry about the name classifications of Espeon with its red border, because it is still a Pyschic Pokemon. Each Pokemon can also be on different colored pucks for each of their evolutionary forms. An example is that Piplup is a red puck (Normal), and Empoleon is on a yellow bordered puck (Hyper). There is also a fourth color border, which would be purple. So far, there is no list what the color means puck-wise, but so far it has only been seen on Palkia and Dialga. So, that gives you a hint that purple may be for legendary Pokemon. Here is where the arcade aspect comes in. Each puck has a little bit of circuitry in them that allows these pucks to communicate with the arcade game. You then choose up to three of your pucks and place them on the Strategy Grid. The Strategy Grid is a 4 x 4 green section on the arcade cabinet. There is one for each player. The place that you place your puck on the screen is the place that the electronic version of that Pokemon will appear. That means that Pokemon Battrio is more about strategy and battle placment unlike the games before. As well, Pokemon Battrio features for the first time ever, 3-on-3 Pokemon Battles! Until now, there were only 2-on-2 battles. So I guess you will see more action here.
